It was functional (except for the shower that would leak water into the room below), but less than ideal -- the low ceilings in the kitchen felt cramped, the laundry obstructed the path to the backyard, which was mostly concrete slab so not inviting anyway, and the cabinets/kitchen floor/bathroom tile were from the 1960's and showing their age. Josh and his team made the house sparkle. Walls and doors were moved, ceilings were raised, foundation was reinforced, floors were leveled. For the affected rooms, everything is new aside from some original framing. It looks fantastic and feels much larger despite occupying the same footprint. What I like about working with Josh is that he has good design sense and he is unruffled. If something doesn't look right, he'll redo it. If a part is delayed, they'll adapt the schedule. We asked for some small changes and he accommodated without asking for a change order. The biggest disaster was about the kitchen sink window -- it was installed out of position and we didn't realize until cabinet installation (the official plans didn't specify the position so the team put it in the middle of the wall, but the cabinet plans required it to be 8" off center). Josh just said "we'll fix it" and they did, though it took a week. After talking to the couple of contractors, I am happy to say that I made the right choice with RWB Construction. Josh and his crew were tasked with remodeling my entire home and adding a master suite. The crew was great to work with and found creative solutions to any issues that we discovered along the way. They were respectful and attentive to my requirements. My project was completed on time, in fact a bit earlier than i anticipated. His foreman Alfredo and his crew even worked weekends and late nights when required. I am very happy with the final results and RWB construction was able to finish the project reasonably close to my budget. This was a removal and replace of all bathroom tile in a 4th floor 1BR condo in uptown Oakland. Included bathroom floor, shower pan and walls. It's a large shower with the footprint of the former bathtub. The guys did a great job and accommodated things that were important to me, including coming up with creative ways to work around and preserve the existing custom vanity. From what i understand, RWB does some pretty big jobs, and mine was small, but i i always felt like i was getting the attention that the owner of a mansion in the hills would get. Project Manager Albert and site supervisor Luis were a pleasure to work with - professional, respectful. The workers too. Luis even took care of the downstairs neighbor's concerns about tile debris flowing down through the floor (due to the way the building was constructed each unit is literally connected). As another reviewer commented, remodeling is a pain, especially in a 1 bathroom unit. Luis and the guys tried to at least minimize trhe time period when the toilet was "offline." RWB handled all of the permitting follow ups with the City, which was a load off of my plate. Their bid was a bit lower than another one i obtained. I highly recommend RWB. I was influenced by the high ratings on Google and YELP, and those ratings are real.
EXCELLENTVerified I had a great experience working with Josh from Red White & Blue Construction to put in a gorgeous shower, build a staircase to connect two levels, and help me turn my storage into usable space. Josh and his team were reliable, punctual, and extremely easy to communicate with throughout the entire project. They sent updates via email and text, and explained all the nuanced details in an easy to understand way. What stood out most was their ability to problem-solve and find solutions when challenges came up, especially when working with the city of SF, which is quite a feat. Josh was approachable, dependable, and always made me feel like my questions and concerns were heard. I told Josh in our last conversation that I'll call him for the next one. I highly recommend them. There are some mechanical things about doing a major project that matter for your quality of life, on which RW&B is excellent. 1) The team is there every day. 2) Change orders are straightforward. 3) Specialists are scheduled promptly and are reliable. 4) Parts purchasing is well planned. 5) The job site is clean. 6) Communications are frequent and consolidated in the group chat. Where RW&B really stands out is design vision and finish quality. We took 5 bids for the project. We chose to go with Josh because in our first meeting, he took the time to inspect and understand the space and the opportunity. He translated our idea and improved on it--throughout the project. In the kitchen, he's the one who suggested moving the range to the other wall, freeing up the floor-to-ceiling pantry cabinets and built-in appliances we wanted. For the covered patio space, all I had was a shape and vibes. He took that roughest outline, built it out, made suggestions for the finishes, and designed the beam wraps which took it to the next level. We felt that he & the team shared our desire to build something that mattered. Living in the space now, we can't even remember the before-time. It feels so natural, and fits what we wanted exactly.
